A mode of production based on the commodification of human labor and its products, whose specific objective is the production of surplus value, that is, the extraction of surplus labor that is turned into an increase in the mass of money in constant terms returning to the balance sheet of the owners of capital at the end of each production cycle.

Like the ruling classes of the societies based on the class division that preceded it, the bourgeoisie measures the success of its economy and its system by its ability to appropriate and direct for its own purposes the output of social work. But unlike previous modes of production, capitalism tends to continually increase production and expand the market, to transform previous social relations into mercantile relations, and to transform the means of production to enable it to enjoy a greater amount of social product.
